Starting as a political news and celebrity portrait photographer in DC, Sam was instantly drawn to wedding photography as a space to promote more inventive ideas. Sam’s focus is on photographic techniques that are deceptively simple but have the potential to transform difficult or uninspiring shooting environments into one-of-a-kind opportunities for every photo made.
It had been a few years since I photographed a wedding at Dock 5 at Union Market, and stepping back inside reminded me exactly why I love this place. That industrial ruggedness, the big windows, the concrete floors, all of it gives a wedding this raw, honest backdrop that makes the color and detail of a celebration pop even harder. Ittie and Taylor’s day was a blend of Hindu and Jewish tradition, and one of my favorite things about the whole day was watching how they borrowed and wove pieces from one culture into the next. From the fire ceremony to the glass under the foot, it never felt like two separate weddings stitched together… it felt like theirs.
What really stuck with me though was the families. You could feel how much both sides showed up for these two, fully present and genuinely excited, and that kind of support has a way of filling a room. Add in a pani puri station, a wall covered in painted hearts, and some of the best outfit changes I have shot in a while, and you get a day that was equal parts meaningful and just plain fun. Congrats again, Ittie and Taylor!
